KARACHI: The Karachi nuclear power station capable of generating 1,37,500 KW of electric energy will go into operation by the middle of 1970. Of this, 125 megawatts will be for industrial and national consumption, while the balance of 12.5 megawatts will be consumed by the station itself.

The tests will, however, commence from early next year with the completion of the reactor, on which work is going on at a fast speed. This information was given to the Central Minister for Industries and Natural Resources, Mr Ajmal Ali Chowdhury, when he visited the Karachi nuclear power project, 17 miles from Karachi, last evening [July 19].

On the conclusion of his hour-long visit, the Minister expressed his admiration for the excellent work done by both Pakistani and Canadian engineers in making the first nuclear project in the country a success. He was conducted through the station by the Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commissioner, Dr I.H. Usmani, and the project Manager.
