PESHAWAR, Jan 9: United Nations High Commission for Refugees has established its office in Jalalabad, the eastern Nangarhar province, and deployed its five-member staff, said a press release issued here on Wednesday.
The press release said that the agency had expended its presence inside Afghanistan and established four offices in Kabul, Herat, Mazar-i-Sharif and Jalalabad to properly monitor the return of Afghan refugees and target distribution of relief goods.
The UNHCR has planned to shift relief items from Peshawar and Quetta. The goods will be distributed among internally displaced people. The press release said that despite security and other problems in some areas of the war-ravaged country an estimated 80,000 Afghans had returned to their country.
