HARIPUR: The district monitoring officer for the July 25 elections served show cause notices on five candidates here the other day asking them to appear before him today (Thursday) for explaining position on violation of the code of conduct.

In the notices, he said the candidates failing to comply with orders would face legal action.

The official said the candidates had displayed banners and billboards larger than what was allowed by the Election Commission of Pakistan for election campaign.

Among the candidates were PML-N’s Babar Nawaz Khan in NA-17, independent Gohar Nawaz Khan in PK-42, PTI’s Akbar Ayub Khan in PK-40 and independents Dr Faiza Rasheed and Faisal Zaman Jahazonwala in PK-42.

MAN KILLED: An industrial unit’s accounts officer was killed in Hattar Industrial Estate here.

The local police said former employee Zeeshan had fired gunshots at Abdul Wahab at the entrance to the factory for delaying payment of dues.

The suspect, who belonged to Khyber region and was sacked on disciplinary grounds lately, fled after firing.

The police said the injured was shifted to the DHQ Hospital, Haripur, whose doctors referred him to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Islamabad, due to critical injuries.

He however died on the way.
