The affectees of Diamer-Basha dam on Tuesday requested Chief Justice Saqib Nisar to ensure the issuance of compensation for their land which had been acquired for construction of the dam.

Chief Justice Nisar was on a visit to Gilgit Baltistan when the landowners approached him to present an application requesting the release of payment by the concerned authorities. He provided assurances that the issue will be resolved in accordance with the law.

Justice Nisar was warmly welcomed by the residents of Gilgit Baltistan who discussed their grievances with him and presented applications for the same.

The Supreme Court had issued directives on July 4 for the construction of Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams to start immediately, and appealed to the general public, including Pakistanis residing abroad, to donate for the cause.

Moreover, Chief Justice Nisar initiated the donation process by announcing Rs1 million donation for the cause.

State Bank of Pakistan Deputy Governor Shamsul Hasan said accounts have been opened in all SBP (BSC) field offices, commercial banks and microfinance banks. He clarified that donations can be made online through internet/ATM banking or other channels besides cash deposits at counters of banks as well as from overseas.

In case of any query or difficulty in making donations, the public may contact SBP Helpline at UAN 111-727-273. Commercial banks can also be contacted on their respective helplines in this regard.

Awareness SMS for Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dam Fund are also being sent out to customers.
