The armed forces of Pakistan have decided to contribute funds for the construction of Diamer-Basha and Mohmand Dam, the military’s spokesperson said on Monday.
“The officers of army, navy and air force will contribute their two days’ pay, while soldiers [will be donating] one day’s pay to the announced fund for this national cause,” read a statement tweeted by Inter-Service Public Relations chief Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor.

During a hearing last week the Supreme Court had observed that water resources were crucial for survival and directed the authorities to take immediate and effective measures to build two dams — Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand. Furthermore, it had appealed to the general public, including Pakistanis residing abroad, to donate for the cause.
Subsequently, the Ministry of Finance on Thursday opened an account under the title of “DIAMER-BHASHA AND MOHMAND DAM FUND –2018”.
The account was opened in pursuance of the Supreme Court’s order to the federal government, Wapda and the executive authority to take effective measures in light of unanimous decisions of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) to develop the 4,500MW Bhasha dam and 700MW Mohmand dam.
The account bears Account No.03-593-299999-001-4 and IBN No.PK06SBPP0035932999990014 for raising funds for the construction of the two dams. Chief Justice Saqib Nisar has formally deposited Rs1 million as a donation in the account from his personal account.
An SC announcement says that payments in the fund will be received at all branches of the State Bank of Pakistan, all treasuries and branches of the National Bank of Pakistan and all other scheduled banks.
On Saturday, the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) management requested its staff to donate to funds for the construction of dams. Pims Executive Director Dr Raja Amjad issued a circular, stating that the staff should donate funds for the construction of Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams.

I just went on to donate some funds but can't seem to do so using online using internet banking. I am not sure how to ask the people I know overseas to transfer funds either.
Will it not be good to open account in other banks too which support internet funds transfer facility?

Good step, I will reserve my 2 days pay till July 26, until I know if the incoming government has the moral authority to wield a volunteers money. The two tested parties don't, and as it stands if they come to power, I will need a lot more assurance (from SC, NAB, FBR and army etc..) that the donations will only be used for the stated purpose and that the projects will be transparent to the highest world standards.

The Supreme Court directive has been whole heatedly welcomed by the people of Pakistan, as the last two civilian government failed to build dams which are vital for country's survival. Special bank accounts have been opened, we salute the armed forces for contributing, just as every patriotic Pakistani will happily contribute. This national project must be guaranteed, as the new government must build these dams as directed by the Supreme Court in the supreme national interest.

We have no rivers yet we have disputes with all neighboring countries where rivers originate from. If Afghanistan blocks water from other side , all these dams will become dry. Still better take an action than not doing anything at all. Appreciate armed forces taking lead. They should also provide material support. I dont think civilian govt can do anything in Pakistan.

If forces are donating then it means this fund is legit and is likely to reach a happy ending, I was not going to donate before, not because I didnt trust CJ but because i wasnt very sure of his ability to implement, but now I know for a fact it will become reality. Good Pakistan

Good gesture and much appreciated! But this solution is not sustainable.There is a long list of crises that we have funded through charity and donations.Poor and middle class is usually sensitive and they feel compelled to contribute even if they dont have enough for themselves and for their children.
On the contrary, majority of the rich and the elite are insensitive and they know these tactics very well.So, there must be an inclusive system of taxation and wealth distribution to prevent such crises. When this water-scarcity-mania is over there are other issues waiting for us, the prominent being among these is the bourgning domestic and external debt. Again people will be asked to donate as it happened in the past(QarzUtaro Mulk Sanwaro).This sort of thinking promotes capriciousness and frivolousness rather than responsibility and farsightedness.

This is a good move. What stops people at the helm of affairs to get hold of two top corrupt political persons ( I must not call them leaders) and recover $35 billion. We may be in a position to build dams and pay loans and arrange for clean drinking water and good health care for the masses.
