TOBA TEK SINGH: Members of a counterfeit gold coins seller gang are active again in the area and they have deprived a citizen of Lahore of Rs400,000 in Gojra.

According to Gojra Saddar police, two suspects contacted complainant Tanveer Hussain of Begum Kot, Shahdara, (Lahore) on telephone and offered him to buy antique gold coins which, according to them, they had recovered during excavation of earth.

The complainant added that when he was on way to the specified place [Chak 95-JB], they contacted him near Chak 297-JB and came there after a few minutes.

Tanveer said he found that coins shown to him were counterfeit so he refused to purchase the same. But the suspects allegedly snatched a cash of Rs400,000 from him at gunpoint and tortured him. Police are investigating the matter.

It merits mentioning that during the last few years people in different cities had been looted by similar fraud of selling antique gold coins in Gojra. Several cases had already been registered against the unidentified suspects in Gojra.

Police had also installed iron boards in Gojra villages to warn the people of purchasing gold coins from anyone. Police had off and on arrested several suspects but could not completely eliminate the gang.
