KARACHI: A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man, who was later beaten up by a mob before being handed over to the police in Orangi Town on Wednesday afternoon, Mominabad police said.

The girl was playing outside her home with other children in a hilly area of Rahim Shah Colony, Sector 11 of Orangi Town, said the area SHO, Shoaib Qureshi. The suspect kidnapped the girl and took her to a nearby hilly area where he allegedly subjected her to criminal assault.

In the meantime, the victim’s sister informed her father that someone had taken the girl away. The father rushed to the spot. The suspect tried to flee but area people caught him and subjected him to beating. Police also arrived there and took him into custody. The girl was sent to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where a lady medico-legal officer confirmed that the girl was raped, the SHO said.

Police registered a case against the suspect. The suspect, unmarried, is a resident of the same area.
