Plan to launch sports academies

ISLAMABAD, June 2: The POF Sports Control Board is to launch academies in four disciplines from June 10 where boys under 20 years of age will be trained. Munir Mohsin Syed, the president of the Board told Dawn that the academies will be for hockey, football, volleyball and basketball.

“Our aim is to train and groom the players as a sincere effort to promote sports,” Munir said.

The players who are to be imparted training by national coaches have already been selected and will be provided food and sports gear for free to begin with.

Pakistan Ordnance Factories Wah has some top class infrastructure that includes international level gymnasium and squash courts.

Munir said that they would also be staging a $5000 WISPA tournament this August.
