KARACHI, Jan 9: Various parts of New Karachi and North Karachi have been experiencing an acute water shortage owing to a number of leakages which have developed in two pipelines.

The leaking pipelines, passing through different parts of New Karachi and North Karachi, are causing damage to roads and streets and resulting in water crisis.

Complaints of leaking pipelines have also been received from sectors 10 and 11-C/3 and 11-A and 11-B. The situation persists for the past one month and area people said that the concerned staff of the KWSB had failed to take remedial measures.

People residing in New Karachi’s Block 3 deplored that although a substantial quantity of water was being wasted from a pipeline, situated near Machchi Market, the KWSB’s officials are yet to take an action, and the area people have been suffering as ankle-deep water could be seen on streets.

In sectors 11-A, 11-B and 5-C-4, the residents urged the KWSB managing director to direct the concerned officials to immediately repair the leakages and restore normal supply to the localities as in the absence of water shortage, they have no choice but to consume sub-soil unhygienic water at the cost of their health.

Residents of Federal B’ Area’s Block 17 also complained that they have been without water for the past two days.

OVERFLOW: Filthy water gushing out from choked sewerage lines has spread on a major portion of Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s Abul Hassan Ispahani, causing extremely unhygienic conditions in the nearby residential areas.

Motorists passing through the Road from Superhighway complained that sewage overflowing from 66-inch dia Trunk Sewer Main often remains stagnant on a major portion of the road.

People residing in the KDA Scheme-33 and the nearby housing complex, Noman View, apprehend that they will be exposed to serious health hazards if the KDA fails to clear the chocked sewerage lines.
