Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Captain Safdar have all been slapped with prison sentences and more — taking the latter two out of the running for the general election. We know that. What we don't know, however, is why the NAB did not arrest Safdar — the only one of the convicted trio in Pakistan — on Friday after the verdict was announced.

When Dawn contacted NAB officials, it got two contrasting views.

NAB will implement the orders of the Accountability Court, Islamabad, to arrest Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz after the issuance of arrest warrants as per law. Retired captain Safdar, who is in Pakistan, will also be arrested after obtaining arrest warrants. — an unnamed source in the bureau

But then what to make of this:

There is no need to get any special permission from the accountability court for the arrests. It is a common law that once the court declares someone a convict, he/she has to be arrested at once and there is no need to get specific permission for seeking their arrest warrant. — additional prosecution general of NAB, Akbar Tarar
