KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition against the preliminary delimitations of provincial assembly constituencies in Shikarpur.

Ibrahim Jatoi submitted that the preliminary delimitations of the provincial assembly constituencies of PS-7 and 9 of Shikarpur were challenged before the election commission through representation and contended that the delimitation commissioner had failed to follow the guidelines set in Section 20 of the Election Act in which principles of delimitations had been highlighted.

The petitioner argued that he had raised several grounds for the purpose of delimitation of the constituencies in question, but the same were rejected by the Election Commission of Pakistan without consideration and dismissed their representation.

A two-judge bench of the SHC headed by Justice Khadim Hussain M. Shaikh pronounced the order and dismissed the petition for not being maintainable.

Earlier, another division bench of the SHC headed by Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar reserved the order on the petition after hearing both sides.

Missing persons’ cases

The same bench on Wednesday directed the police to produce the call data of the missing persons by July 26.

While hearing dozens of missing persons’ petitions, the division bench also expressed dissatisfaction over the investigation conducted so far by the police to locate the whereabouts of missing persons.

The bench deplored that despite the passage of many months, the police remained unable to make any progress regarding the recovery of missing persons.
