PUTD to clash with GP College

LAHORE, June 1: The Punjab University Teaching Department (PUTD) and Garrison Post Graduate College, Lahore Cantt are to clash in the final of the Punjab University women Inter-collegiate cricket championship by winning their respective semifinals at the university’s New Campus grounds on Wednesday.

PUTD defeated Government College, Baghbanpura, Lahore by nine wickets.

Set to score 76 for win, the PUTD overhauled it in 10 overs for the loss of one wicket of Nayab Afzal, who scored 13 runs. Saba Khalid (24) and Sana Javed (14) remained unbeaten.

Batting first, Baghbanpura College were all out for 75 in 12.4 overs. Irum Bukhari (19) and Saadia Shafiq (17) were the only batswomen who could reach the double figures.

Nazish Chaudhary captured three wickets for 24 runs while Nabiha Mehmood earned two wickets for 12 runs.

Fine bowling by Rabia and Faiza, who shared seven wickets, helped Garrison Post Graduate College beat Queen Mary College by 26 runs. Rabia picked up four wickets for 19 runs while Faiza finished with three wickets for 10 runs as the losers skittled out for a total of 63 in 14 overs while chasing a low winning target of 90 in 20 overs.

Earlier, the winners also failed to set an imposing total as all were out for 89 in 19 overs with Faiza top-scoring with 34. The final will be played on Friday.
