KOHAT: Only three of the 10 candidates for NA-32, Kohat, have filed their tax returns during last three years as they declared their assets.

According to the election commission, PML-N candidate Abbas Afridi has declared assets worth Rs2.09 billion, PTI candidate Shehryar Afridi Rs15.9 million, Asmatullah Khan Rs15 million, Gohar Saifullah Rs14.5 million, former MNA Mufti Ibrar Sultan Rs4.1 million, Mohammad Fayyaz Haideri Rs1 million and Najeebullah Durrani Rs400,000. The remaining three had nothing to declare. Abbas Afridi has paid a tax of Rs63 million, Sheharyar Afridi Rs360,000 and Gohar Saifullah Rs148,000.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader former governor retired Lt-Gen Iftikhar Hussain Shah has said that the joining of PTI by ‘the electable’ is harmful for the future of the party.

In a statement issued here, he recalled that late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had formed the party based on principles of socialism and all followers believed in it. However, landlords and waderas were gradually inducted in the party which changed its whole appearance and those who founded the party were sidelined, he stated.

The former governor said that ‘electables’ spread their tentacles and became decision makers by joining core committees, etc in every party. He said that as member of his party’s central executive committee he was shocked to see some faces on his right and left.

POLICE DARBAR: Inspector General of Police, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mohammad Tahir has said that police will remain neutral and ensure maintenance of peace during the general elections by utilising all available resources.

Addressing a police darbar at Police Lines and security meeting at the office of DIG, Kohat region, Mohammad Ijaz during his daylong visit, the IGP said that nobody would be allowed to disrupt the polling process. He asked the police officials to ensure safety of the public and staff during elections.

Mr Tahir hailed the role of police in crushing terrorism with bravery and said that continuing role of dispute resolution councils and police express service was reflection of the social welfare projects. He was also given a briefing about the working of dispute resolution councils.
