LAHORE: An independent candidate for PP-160 (Lahore) has approached the Lahore High Court against rejection of his nomination papers by the returning officer and the appellate tribunal as well.

In his petition, Tariq Mehboob contends that his nomination papers were rejected by the both forums on a plea that his proposer and seconder did not belong to the same constituency.

He states that the proposer and seconder were from Ichhra area, which according to the map of new delimitation falls within the territory of PP-160. He submits that the returning officer and the appellate tribunal ignored the fact and rejected his nomination papers on technical grounds.

He asks the court to set aside the impugned decisions and allow him to contest the upcoming general election.
