Fazal laid to rest

LAHORE, May 31: Former cricket team captain and Oval hero Fazal Mahmood was laid to rest at Mussafarkhana graveyard here on Tuesday. A large number of ex-cricketers, sport officials, friends and relatives attended his funeral prayers at Jamia Naeemia.

Fazal died of cardiac arrest here on Monday. He was 78.

Among his former team colleagues who attended the funeral were Imtiaz Ahmed, Zulifqar Ahmad and Aslam Khokhar.

Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan, Waqar Younis, Mohammad Ilyas, Ijaz Butt, Abdul Qadir, Akram Raza, Shafqat Rana, Azmat Rana, Zakir Khan, Shafiq Ahmad Papa were the other prominent cricketers who attended the funeral.

Also present on the occasion were former PCB chairmen Tauqir Zia and Lt-Gen Safdar retired, PCB director operations Abbas Zaidi, former director Yawer Saeed (the brother-in-law of Fazal) and secretary Col Nasim Ahmed (retired). — Sports Correspondent
