MANDI BAHAUDDIN, May 31: Four of a family died and five others seriously injured when a speeding truck crashed into a motorcycle-rickshaw at Mauza Ladhar on Tuesday. Reports said a truck (SA-1883) went out of control and hit a motorcycle-rickshaw on Phalia road. As a result, Sikandar Hayat Tarar, his wife Azra Begum, two relative women Sakina Bibi and Irshad Begum died on the spot. Five other rickshaw passengers, Munir Bibi, Esha Oman, Mukhtar Ahmad, Nabeela and Amjad Rasool, got seriously injured, who were shifted to the local civil hospital. Two of the wounded were said to be in critical condition.

The erring truck driver fled after the accident, leaving the vehicle behind, which was impounded by Phalia police.

FIRE: A fire broke out in the house of SDO (Phones) Mian Irshad Qayyum, resulting in burn injuries to him on Monday night. Reports said Mr Qayyum received injuries while saving his family members. He is said to be stable at a local hospital.
