The organising aspect of the 2018 polls has kept all the electoral stakeholders so preoccupied that the threat of militancy has been largely ignored. Little attention has been paid to the fact that pre-poll rigging, poll day manipulation and other dirty tactics are not the only obstacles to holding free and fair elections.

How quickly have we forgotten the 2013 polls when targeted attacks on some secular political parties had all but ended their campaigns before they had even begun.

One of Dawn's editorials today draws our attention towards a fresh impetus in TTP's ranks and urges the authorities to not let the militants influence the upcoming polls like they did the last time.

It is hoped that the ECP and the caretaker governments will work closely and effectively with political parties to coordinate election-related activities. — an excerpt from the editorial
