LAHORE: PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari reached the city on Sunday to discuss and finalise party’s nominees from Punjab.

Mr Zardari has already consulted the Punjab leadership in Islamabad on the award of tickets and is likely to announce the ticket-holders in a day or two as Thursday (June 28) is the last day set by the Election Commission for candidates for submitting authority letters from their respective parties to get the election symbol of the relevant party.

The provincial parliamentary board has already completed interviews of the hopefuls and the leadership claims that unlike the impression it would field candidates against most of the Punjab seats.

A senior party member says their selections against around 90 per cent of the seats of National and Punjab Assembly are complete. He argues that the announcement of the candidates has been delayed to see selection of nominees by other parties so that adjustments could be made accordingly.

Meanwhile, the party has set up an eight-member central election cell under the chairmanship of former senator Taj Haider. Other members include Rukhsana Zubairi, Lal Baksh Bhutto, Barrister Amir Hasan, Sardar Lateef Khosa, Nazir Dhoki, Lateef Akbar, and Amjad Husain advocate.
