APROPOS the article ‘Expat Pakistani talent’ (June 11). The writer states that we should adopt a forward-looking stance to compete with other nations in the global marketplace and join the comity of the developed nations. But, for that, we’ll have to utilise our local talent keeping merit in view. We also need to attract talented Pakistanis from abroad on handsome salaries. But does our ruling elite really know how to utilise the talent in this country?
A long time ago, one of my friends serving in a government department was sent on a one-year course to Japan to train on certain equipment. When he returned he was deployed on some other duty, disregarding his qualifications and the money spent on his training. He didn’t work for even a single day on the equipment on which he was trained.
The system in Pakistan needs to be completely overhauled. Merit and merit alone should be our top priority. Only then, will we see a change for the better.
