THE WEEK THAT WAS

Nibah | ARY, Fridays 8.00pm

It is one of the better written and produced serials so far this year. Shaheer (Asif Raza Mir) discovers the culprit behind all the catastrophic trouble — his son Mubashir — ably performed by a young star-in-the-making, Abdul Ahad Khan. However, Shaheer’s trust in Sofia (Aamina Shaikh) dwindles again as her sister Saniya (Sundas Tariq) also tries to destroy Sofia’s marriage.

Shaheer wants Sofia to confess to a crime that she is adamant she hasn’t committed. Saniya goes back to her husband Munsif (Kunwar Ali Nafees) after Sofia drums some sense in his head. The most interesting turn is Sofia’s resilience which begins to soften Mubashir’s heart, and which may save her marriage.

What To Watch Out For

Mera Khuda Janay | Geo TV, Wednesdays 8.00pm

After being raped by husband Waleed’s (Ali Abbas) elder cousin Shafiq (Ally Khan), Roohi (Hira Salman) is trying to come to terms with having to live in the same house with the rapist and being pregnant. Shafiq gets married to the same girl who Waleed was to marry had Roohi not become pregnant.

Roohi goes about insulting and humiliating Shafiq whenever she gets the chance and instigates him against his own wife with a categorical curse for her to become a rape victim. As if things aren’t already complicated enough, Shafiq is beginning to feel jealous of Waleed.

Perhaps Western ‘statesmen’ may moderate their policies if a significant percentage of voters punish them at the ballot box.
