SARGODHA, May 30: A constable and an alleged robber were killed in an ‘encounter’ here on Monday, while another constable was seriously injured. Police claimed that an unidentified robber riding a motorcycle (SGJ 8909) tried to escape after seeing an Elite Force vehicle coming from Jhalchakian. The fleeing robber had a collision with an auto-rickshaw, and leaving his motorcycle there, started running along a bank of the Lower Jhelum Canal, the police said.

Constables Sajid Hussain and Nasir Hussain chased him, but meanwhile the robber opened fire at them, killing Sajid on the spot, while Nasir sustained critical injuries. However, in retaliatory firing, the robber was also killed on the spot, the police claimed.

The injured constable was taken to the local DHQ hospital, where he was reported to be in a critical condition.

The police high-ups, including DIG Fayaz Ahmed Mir and DPO Muhammad Naeem Khan reached the hospital to inquire after the constable and also visited the scene of encounter.

Meanwhile, an eyewitness told this scribe that two alleged robbers on a motorcycle were being chased by the police.
