PESHAWAR: The police defused an improvised explosive device in Tatara Park area of Hayatabad here on Sunday night.

Officials in the Peshawar Development Authority said the IED was kept in an abandoned bag spotted by the Safe Hayatabad Squad in a park at around 9:30pm. They said the squad immediately informed the Hayatabad police about the bag, which called the bomb disposal unit, which found the device to be inside before refusing it.

Hayatabad ASP Waqar Kharal said the IED was placed under a merry-go-round.

He said the police got the park vacated before calling in the BDU.

The ASP said the IED had no detonator, prima cord, safety fuse and explosives and that there was a smart watch without Sim card besides nails and fertilisers. He said that IED weighed a kilogramme.
