PESHAWAR/NOWSHERA: Jamaat-i-Islami chief Senator Sirajul Haq has demanded the formation of a truth commission to investigate the major tragedies, which hit Pakistan since its creation.

Addressing an Eid Milan party arranged by the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal in Eidgah area here, the JI chief said the proposed commission would discern the truth and falsehood major national tragedies.

“Pakistan faced tragedies from premier Liaquat Ali Khan’s assassination to the Fall of Dhaka, Gen Zia plane crash, terrorist attacks on Kamra base and GHQ, and destruction of Karachi but the people moved on forget about these incidents. It is the need of the hour to set up a commission to pursue truth and present facts before the people,” he said.

Mr Siraj said hiding facts on national tragedies was an injustice to the people.

He lashed out at the ‘secular’ politicians and blamed them for the country’s problems.

“Both secular politics and leaders have failed this country. The secular politics is the source of corruption, unemployment, poverty and lawlessness,” he said.

The JI leader said the non-implementation of Islamic laws threatened the country.

He said there was need for exposing those, who brought terrorism to the country to make money.

Mr Siraj said Pakistan was ripe for a change of rulers but the nation was not eager for a change in the name of westernisation.

He said his party looked for a peaceful Islamic revolution in the country through ballot.

In Nowshera, Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal provincial general secretary Dr Iqbal Khalik claimed that the religio-political grouping would sweep the next elections to introduce a true Islamic system in the country.

Addressing an Eid Milan party, Dr Iqbal said Muslims needed a true leadership to stand on their own feet.

He said no country would stage a war against any Islamic country if it had a proper leadership.

He appreciated Qazi Hussain Ahmad, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Shah Ahmad Noorani, Sirajul Haq for uniting religious leaders of different sects on one platform (MMA).

“We want to replace this British law with the Islamic law to make all our decisions,” he said.

Dr Iqbal criticised the PTI leadership for awarding election tickets to turncoats and said how the party would bring about the promise change in the people’s life with the help of those timeservers.

MMA district president Asif Luqman Qazi, who was also in attendance, said the alliance would contact the National Accountability Bureau against the last PTI government for anomalies in the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transport project.

He alleged that former chief minister Pervez Khattak had caused Rs20 billion losses to the province through the BRT scheme and indebted the province to Rs50 billion.

Mr Qazi said the MMA would set up industrial zones in Nowshera district and thus, providing jobs to the people.
