GUJRAT, May 30: An anti-terrorism court issued non-bailable warrants for arrest of the sacked Kharian tehsil nazim in a case lodged against him with Kharian Cantonment police station, claimed the investigator on Monday. While PPP circles claimed that a division bench of the Lahore High Court had granted interim bail to Nadeem Asghar Kaira.

Kharian Cantonment police had registered a case under various sections against the tehsil nazim and others on the complaint of SHO Ghulam Jaffar Cheena on April 14.

The complainant alleged that the nominated and the unidentified accused attacked on the police station and thrashed him in a bid to get released PPP office-bearer Zia Mohiyuddin.

All the nominated accused had been granted bails in the case while the tehsil nazim had been declared a court fugitive by the ATC on April 28. Later, the provincial secretary for local government had sacked the nazim for his permanent disappearance from his office.

Investigator SI Ghalib told Dawn by telephone that the ATC had issued non-bailable warrants against the tehsil nazim with a direction to arrest him and present him before court on next hearing on May 31 (today).

He said they had so far not received any written order about the pre-arrest bail of Mr Kaira.
