On the directives of SHC Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M. Shaikh, the sessions judges directed judicial magistrates concerned to visit the prisons and dispose of the pleas in order to enable them to celebrate Eid with their families.

They issued release orders of 170 prisoners, who were involved in minor offences and petty cases, by sentencing them for a period they had already undergone in prison, granted bail and reduced the amount of sureties.

Former ACLC official gets interim bail

The SHC has granted interim pre-arrest bail to a former inspector of Anti-Car Lifting Cell in a case pertaining to the murder of a teenager.

The then inspector, Tariq Raheem, along with former ACLC officials Tariq Mehmood, Inspector Azhar Ahsan and five other policemen has been charged with allegedly killing 19-year-old student Intizar Ahmed on the night of Jan 13 in Defence Housing Authority. Applicant Raheem approached the SHC after an antiterrorism court had rejected his pre-arrest bail application a few days ago.

After an initial hearing, a SHC bench granted him interim bail against a surety bond of Rs500,000 till July 3. The case is pending trial before an ATC.

The investigation report said that Daniyal and Bilal had opened fire upon the car of Intizar while six other ACLC officials were also charge-sheeted for intercepting the car of the victim while donning plainclothes, committing professional negligence and fleeing from the crime scene after the incident.
