Hats off to Asif Noorani! So wonderfully written, encapsulating the relevance of lyrics in the music of cinema, both Indian and Pakistani: ‘Words, words, words’ (Dawn, June 10)
Sadly, recent years have overhauled the relevance of lyrics in our cinemas. Melody has been given excessive importance, and within melody, rhythms been given the driver’s seat. Therefore, the impact of current songs has by and large travelled south in the human anatomy. From pleasing the heart and head to taking control of our lower limbs: but then art does mirror life to a large extent, doesn’t it? Kudos again.
