MANY small farmers’ livelihood throughout Sindh is at stake as the powerful farm lords in connivance with irrigation department staff are stealing water from the canals.

The growers of Tehsil Digri in Mirpurkhas district have been suffering from an acute water shortage.

This is the second year in a row when farmers at the tail in Taluka Digri have not received their share of water. This has affected their crops and their meagre means of livelihood. The situation has become so bad that many small farmers are on the verge of starvation as their crops are badly affected. Water for drinking is also in short supply.

The Sindh government should stop this water theft immediately and streamline the distribution system.
