MANSEHRA: Election ticket nominations have caused differences in Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal in the Mansehra district and the local leaders have approached the central parliamentary board for amicable settlement of the matter.

The differences surfaced after Jamaat-i-Islami, a major component of MMA, announced its own contenders for elections in the district, bypassing the manifesto and criteria set by MMA’s central leadership.

A meeting of the component parties of MMA held here the other day had announced that JI would be awarded ticket only in PK-31 constituency, but the Jamaat leaders also demanded tickets for PK-32, NA-13 and NA-14.

Following the JI’s stance, MMA district president Syed Hydaitullah Shah approached the central leadership for resolving the issue.

Meanwhile, contenders of both the major parties - JI and JUI-F – have obtained nomination papers against each other for two national and five provincial assembly constituencies in the district.

When contacted, Shakar Hussain Awan, information secretary of JI, told Dawn thatDr Tariq Sherazi was going to submit his nomination papers on Monday for NA-13, ex-tehsil nazim Khuram Khan Swati for PK-31, Mohammad Ibrar Tanoli for PK-32, Qazi Zahidullah for PK-33 and Dr Siddique for NA-14.

Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Faspirants, including former MPA Habibur Rehman Tanoli, have also obtained nomination papers.
