KARACHI, May 29: Leaders of various political parties visited the hunger strike camp of Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum outside Karachi Press Club on Sunday and expressed solidarity with protesting fishermen. Besides observing a token hunger strike, a large number of men, women and children of fishing villages also staged a protest demonstration and a sit-in in front of the Press Club.

The politicians, who visited the protest camp, included Nisar Khuhro, Rashid Rabbani, Muzaffar Shujrah, Rafiq Engineer, Ali Hassan Chandio, Amir Bhanbhro and Mir Abbas Talpur.

Talking to the protestors, Nisar Khuhro said that his party was against all types of ‘contract system’. He alleged that the government was pressing for imposing contract system in fishing sector because some of its high-ups allegedly intended to get handsome commissions from the contractors.

Earlier, PFF leaders Saeed Baloch and Tahir Ali briefed the leaders about their struggle against contract system. —PPI
