Election time is also party manifesto time. As always, the country's economy is a big talking point and parties spend a lot of ink outlining their plans on how to improve the economy.

Dawn's recent editorial looks at what Pakistan's major three parties promised during the last election in 2013, and what they could focus on this time around:

"Perhaps for this election, the parties can sharpen their focus on three specific, core dysfunctions that afflict Pakistan’s economy.

These are the circular debt, the fiscal deficit and the external sector deficit (or the erosion of the economy’s competitiveness versus other countries)."
