Punter gets money’s worth

LONDON, Jan 8: A gambler has won more than 177,000 pounds ($255,300) for a five-pound stake after successfully backing seven winning horses Tuesday.

The mystery punter, who has yet to claim his winnings, placed his 2.50 pounds each-way bet in a betting shop in West London.

The horses were Baltic Magic, at odds of 8-1, which ran in the 1300 race at Hereford, General at 12-1 in the 1320 at Leicester, Jollie Bollie, at 10-11 in the 1330 at Hereford, Master Tern, who was 10-3 in the 1350 race at Leicester, Kuwait Millennium, a 4-1 bet in the 1400 at Hereford, Bin It, 7-2 in the 1500 race at Hereford, and Polar Champ, 9-4 in the 1520 at Leicester.

The punter, believed to be a man in his early 40s, has 177,157 pounds and 81 pence to collect.—Reuters
