KOHAT: The police foiled an attempt of smuggling hashish from tribal area to Punjab and held an inter-provincial smuggler at the Indus Highway toll plaza in Lachi on Saturday.

The police were checking vehicles at the plaza when it stopped a bus coming from Peshawar for search. During checking, the police found three kilogrammes of hashish with a man named Yaqoob Khan, a resident of Khyber Agency.

The accused was shifted to the police station where during preliminary interrogations he admitted to trying to smuggle the consignment to Punjab.

A case was registered against him under the drug act.

Meanwhile, the district police fined more than 5,700 vehicles for violation of motor vehicle ordinance during the ongoing month.

A statement issued from the district police office on Saturday said the police also impounded 538 vehicles, which were driven by underage drivers and without licence.
