ISLAMABAD: The Central Minister for Education, Health, Labour and Social Welfare, Kazi Anwarul Haque has called upon the Provincial Social Welfare Councils to follow uniform policy and principles while recommending grants-in-aid to voluntary social welfare agencies.

Delivering his Presidential address at the 20th session of the National Council of Social Welfare here yesterday [May 13], the Minister remarked that provincial Councils could not work in isolation, although they were independent in a way.

Kazi Anwarul Haque observed that in order to maintain uniformity in the policy in both the provinces, the National Council would examine objectively the decisions taken by the West Pakistan Social Welfare Council and hoped that both the provincial Councils would reshape their policies accordingly, he added.

He added that the Government had approved the Councils’ suggestions about determining the status of the national agencies eligible for Government grants, and added that a Sub-committee was proposed to be set up to consider which of the social welfare organisation claiming the national status conformed to the required conditions.
