KARACHI: Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) and State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) completed comfortable victories on the opening day of the Departmental T20 Women’s Cricket Championship here at the National Stadium on Tuesday.
In the first match played in the morning, SBP made mockery of Higher Education Commission (HEC)’s decision to pile up 160-4.
Hafsa Khalid stood out with a 46-ball knock of 72 that included seven boundaries and two sixes after opener Hafza Amjad hit 29 off 25 deliveries with the aid of six fours. Iram Javed hoisted two sixes in making an 18-ball 25.
Maham Zaheer bagged two wickets for 29 runs in three overs before top-scoring with a 20-ball 25 (five fours) as HEC slumped to 89-7 in reply.
In the afternoon encounter, PCB XI struggled to 91-8 after opting first against the formidable ZTBL side. Marina Iqbal, who opened the innings, struck three fours in scoring 25 from 42 balls.
Skipper Nida Dar, Nashra Sandhu and Diana Baig claimed two wickets each.
ZTBL then romped to victory by reaching 92-3 in 15.3 overs. Javeria Khan led the chase with undefeated 46 with her 38-ball innings laced with eight boundaries, while opener Muneeba Ali contributed 26 off 29 balls (four fours and one six).
Tuesday’s results:
ZTBL beat PCB XI by seven wickets.
PCB XI 91-8 in 20 overs (Marina Iqbal 25; Nida Dar 2-11, Nashra Sandhu 2-17, Diana Baig 2-22); ZTBL 92-3 in 15.3 overs (Javeria Khan 46 not out, Muneeba Ali 26).
SBP beat HEC by 71 runs.
