Earth Day

Published April 27, 2018

THIS is apropos your editorial ‘Earth Day 2018’ (April 22). The day is marked every year.

Plastic pollution is the most important topic of the current year. It is estimated that by 2050 there will be more plastics in the oceans than fish. According to the environment ministry, the country wastes almost 20,023 million tonnes of plastic material a year.

For ending plastic pollution, the government and the public must play a dual role. A ban is necessary. It is time the government invented technology that can destroy the material. Meanwhile, the public must use cloth bags for shopping. The media should also play a role in this regard.
