KARACHI, Jan 8: The National Peoples Party has urged the UN to guarantee right of self-determination to Kashmiris.

“It is necessary for the security council to ensure a just settlement of the long-standing Kashmir issue in accordance with its resolutions for ensuring a durable peace in South Asia”, stated Syed Zia Abbas, NPP’s central information secretary.

He was of the view that the amassing of troops by India had created a volatile situation, and there was an urgent need for defusing tension on the borders.

He welcomed the goodwill gesture by President Gen Pervez Musharraf to India at the SAARC summit and felt that Delhi should now reciprocate and refrain from escalating tension on the borders with pakistan.

He termed the attack on Indian Parliament as “drama diplomacy” and said Indian troops had mercilessly killed more than 80,000 innocent Kashmiris, gangraped thousands of Kashmiri women and violated human rights in occupied Kashmir for the last 12 years.
