LAHORE: A cross-section of the city intellectuals who had taken an active part in the Pakistan Movement has decided to join hands again, this time, for “thwarting overt and covert attempts at undermining the ideological basis of Pakistan”.

They will also strive for the advancement of the values that led to the establishment of Pakistan.

Calling themselves old workers of the Pakistan movement, the intellectuals have decided to work on a non-political plan. They met under the Chairmanship of Mian Salahuddin, MNA, at his Gulberg residence on Sunday [April 14] and chalked out a programme for the fulfilment of their new objectives. Mr A.R. Shahab Mufti was chosen as convener.

Those present included members belonging to different walks of life and diverse shades of political opinion. But they pledged that “we will work irrespective of our political affiliations”.

The meeting decided to compile an authentic history of Pakistan with particular reference to the contributions made by the student community to the Pakistan Movement, so as to enable the present generation to fully understand the genesis of Pakistan and to actively take part in the promotion of Pakistan ideology.
