MOVEMENT of overloaded heavy vehicles can be seen on RCD highway. Large vehicle drivers, particularly of tractors with trailers and 18-wheelers used for transportation of livestock feed openly flout traffic rules by overloading their vehicles. On my way to office, I usually see parts of the road covered with fodder which falls from these vehicles owing to improper loading.

Heavy vehicles overloaded fodder can cause fatal accidents. Not only these heavily loaded juggernauts cover a sizeable portion of the road causing traffic congestion, they also cause road accidents. Moreover, trucks carrying goods beyond their capacity emit toxic gases, which is dangerous for health.

Throughout the RCD highway, these vehicles cross several police checkposts. But they are allowed to carry excessive load after an ‘arrangement’ between the drivers and the police. The authorities concerned should look into this issue.
