GUJRANWALA, May 20: A minor was raped in the Baghbanpura area on Friday as the city police failed to arrest the criminal. Victim ‘A’, a resident of street No 98, was reportedly on her way to a tuition centre when the unidentified accused kidnapped her, took to a deserted place. He raped her and escaped after throwing her at Alam Chowk bypass in critical condition.

She was taken to the DHQ hospital where her condition was stated to be serious.

According to police one Ali Ijaz who was arrested by Ladheywala police when he was abducting a minor was not the man whose sketch was prepared and released by police.

Ijaz told police during interrogation that he kidnapped three girls but could rape only one while two managed to escape after raising an alarm.

TELEPHONES: Over 700 telephones of Eminabad went out of order when unidentified thieves stole 120 yards of cable on Thursday night.

The theft came to the notice of the department when a large number of subscribers complained to them.

When contacted, telephone exchange incharge engineer Ghulam Rasul confirmed the cable theft and said a case has been registered with the police.

New cable was being laid to restore the telephones.

When they reached near Ghakkhar unidentified accused riding a jeep with green number plate and revolving light intercepted them on the pretext of checking and took away to Kot Noora village. They snatched Rs300,000 in cash, mobile phones and wrist watches at gunpoint and escaped.
