KARACHI, May 20: The spokesman for Sindh Health Department, denying news item that appeared in national dailies regarding the transfer of Asst Prof Dr Sher Shah Syed, has clarified that Dr Sher Shah is actually an employee of the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) who had been given additional charge of the Qatar Hospital.

“This additional charge has been taken back and orders have been issued to appoint Dr Sher Shah on his actual position,” the spokesman said in a handout released on Friday.

He alleged that Dr Sher Shah had tried to pressurize the department illegally by using his subordinates in holding protest demonstrations and press conferences.

He said transfers and postings were part of the public service, and that Dr Shah had tried to create a false impression in the demonstrations and press conferences that there was no senior staff at the Qatar Hospital’s Gynaecology Ward. When in reality there are seven gynaecologists at the said hospital, he said.

Dr Uzma Khalid is a senior doctor of grade 19 in the said ward. Besides, six other postgraduate doctors are also doing duties there, he added.

The spokesman informed that the health department was considering taking departmental action against Dr Sher Shah Syed for violating E&D rules.—PPI
