PTI asks US to apologize

Published May 20, 2005

ISLAMABAD, May 19: Several leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-i- Insaf (PTI) have demanded that the US government should unconditionally apologize to the Muslims for the desecration of the holy Quran by US Army at Guantanamo Bay, saying the act could further ignite anti-US sentiments.

This demand was made by PTI leaders Amir Kiani, Sardar Azhar tariq Khan, Zahid Hussain Kazmi, Col (retired) Yunus Ali Raza and Faisal Pirzada in a joint press conference here on Thursday.

They urged all segments of society including media, civil society organizations and political parties to protest against these barbaric acts.

The whole Pakistani nation was duty bound to defend its faith as well as that of other people. They said Islam today was under attack in the name of war on terror.

They said the Newsweek report must be looked at in conjunction with other independent reports corroborating the use of inhuman and indefensible means of torturing the Guantanamo Bay inmates.

The PTI leaders condemned the extreme physical and emotional torture of inmates and termed it as a gross violation of all international human rights.
