BAHAWALNAGAR, May 19: Dacoits killed a constable during an encounter with police near Haroonabad. Police said that on a tip-of regarding the presence of an accused, Tahiry Daket, who had allegedly killed a Numberdar of Dahranwala during a dacoity, in Haroonabad area, a team of Chishtian police raided a crime den near Chak 131/1-R.

Becoming aware of police’s arrival, the criminals opened indiscriminate fire on the team, during which a bullet pierced through the belly of Head Constable Muhammad Akram. He was rushed to THQ hospital at Haroonabad in serious condition, from where he was shifted to Bahawalnagar District Headquarter Hospital, where he died.

The funeral prayers of Muhammad Akram were held at District Police Lines, attended by a large number of people from all walks of life. Later, his coffin was dispatched to his native village 197/HB for burial.

DIG Ghulam Haider Marth announced a total grant of Rs1000,000 for the family of the deceased policeman.
