LARKANA, May 19: The Chief Justice of Sindh High Court, Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed, has said that more than 15,000 cases are pending in courts because of shortage of judges in the province. The government is considering appointment of new additional sessions judges so that justice may be provided to the people without delay.

Addressing the members of the High Court Bar Association, Larkana, on Wednesday night, he said efforts were being made to strengthen the judiciary in a proper manner.

He said the decision of annexing Mehar and Khairpur Nathan Shah talukas in the jurisdiction of Sindh High Court, Larkana circuit bench, would be made after consultation with members of the District Bar Association, Dadu.

Responding to the demands of the High Court Bar Association, the chief justice said he would recommend to the government of Sindh for solving the problems of the bar.

He expressed the hope that with the collective efforts of advocates and judges, cases would be disposed of promptly.

The president of the High Court Bar Association, Larkana, Abdul Razzak Soomro welcomed the chief justice.

The chief justice while addressing the members of the District Bar Association on Thursday said the cases should be disposed of on merit.

On the occasion, the president of the bar, Mr Ayaz Soomro, welcomed the chief justice.

Earlier, the chief justice presided over a high-level meeting of the district and session judges and additional judges of the Larkana region.

He said in any delay on the part of prosecution the magistrate was competent authority to issue notices to police officers so that the challan of the case be presented before the court concerned at least in 17 days at any cost.
