India names team

KARACHI, May 18: India has announced a four-member team for the Pakistan-India Snooker Challenge which commences from June 9 at Karachi Club. The team comprises Alok Kumar, Pankaj Advani, Mannan Chandra and Devendra Joshi. Yasin Merchant, a key member of Indian team in the championship held last year, was not included in the squad as he fell to No.5 in Indian rankings.

The Pakistan team includes former world champion Saleh Muhammad, Muhammad Yousuf, Imran Shahzad and Naveen Perwani.

This would be the third edition of Pak-India Championship. Pakistan won the first held here in 2003, whereas Indians won the second held in India in 2004.

The three-day championship, which concludes on June 11 offers Rs200,000 for winners and Rs100,000 for runners-up.—PPI
