Shabab-i-Milli to stop marathon

Published May 19, 2005

LAHORE, May 18: The Shabab-i-Milli has threatened to stop a mixed marathon by force if its organizers will not abandon the plan. Jamaat-i-Islami youth wing’s Lahore president Ahmad Salman Baloch said at a press conference here on Wednesday the only purpose of the NGO organizing the event was to amass wealth by damaging country’s image abroad.

The run under the aegis of the HRCP and the JAC will be held on Monday from the Liberty Chowk to the Kalima Chowk. Mr Baloch told a questioner that they would talk to the organizers to convince them not to hold the event that could spread obscenity and vulgarity in society.

He said they were not against participation of women in sports if these were held within boundary walls.
