KARACHI, May 18: The Pakistan International Freight Forwarders Association (PIFFA) has taken exception to allegations levelled by some business circles against freight forwarders (consolidators).
The managing committee of the PIFFA in a meeting on Wednesday referred to the statements that the House Bill of Lading being illegal seem prima facie incorrect in law. It further stated that it is either result of lack of understanding of the law or is motivated by a desire to hold back the freight forwarding sectors’ recent efforts to structure and institutionalize country’s international freight forwarding and logistics industry.
The PIFFA maintained that it is understood that about three years ago, a group of six or seven exporters were adversely effected by the action of a single freight forwarding company. The matter was taken to court and is believed to be still under litigation.
The association asked the complaining exporters to give details of their complaints so that the PIFFA may take a position on the matter as well as formulate a policy at the association level or otherwise to avoid such situations in future, says a press release.
