HYDERABAD: The chairman of the Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party, Dr Qadir Magsi, has condemned police atrocities against HRCP chairperson Asma Jehangir, secretary-general Iqbal Hyder and other rights activists in Lahore.

In a statement issued here on Monday, he said the government did not possess even an iota of moral values and added that barbarity of the Punjab police had defamed Pakistan in the world.

He said the rulers were propagating ‘enlightened moderation’, tolerance and democracy but had not reformed the police.

He said those who denuded women on roads had no right to stage the farce of women representation in parliament and local bodies.

Dr Magsi said if the rulers had any decency they should step down and hold fresh elections.

He demanded that stern action should be taken against officials of the Punjab police who had insulted and humiliated rights activists and women.

MIRPURKHAS: Lawyers took out a procession from the district and sessions court on Tuesday to protest against atrocities of the Lahore police against HRCP chairperson Asma Jehangir, secretary-general Iqbal Haider and other activists.

The protest was held under the aegis of the District Bar Association.
