LAHORE: The Punjab archives department is holding a two-day exhibition of historic documents related to the independence of the country at the Tomb of Anarkali from Thursday (today).

The documents are part of the historic record of the department that covers the history of Punjab from the Mughal period.

According to the department officials on Wednesday, the archival material to be put on display for two days would include the Radcliffe Award of Aug 12, 1947, June 3 Plan, 1947, Viceroy’s Press Conference of June 4, 1947, and the terms and reference of the Boundary Commission, bona fides of the Punjab Muslim Federation, Lahore, notification regarding appointment of the Quaid-i-Azam as the Governor-General of Pakistan, The Pakistan (Provisional) Constitution Order, 1947, notification regarding appointment of the very first cabinet of the West Punjab, change of the office of governor of the West Punjab by Sir Robert Francis Mudi, instructions about hoisting of the Union Jack on and after Aug 14, 1947, and distribution of Pakistani flags among all heads of departments and the deputy commissioners.

Other documents would include treaties and international agreements entered into by the government of Pakistan in 1947, a copy of the Quaid-i-Azam’s passport, text of the resolution passed at the 24th session of the All India Muslim League held at Lahore from March 22 to 24, 1940, (Pakistan Resolution).

Officials said copies of different papers would also be displayed. They included manifesto of the Punjab Muslim League, presidential address of Allama Iqbal in Allahabad, presidential addresses of the Quaid-i-Azam in different meetings of the Muslim League and its resolutions from 1940 to 1941.
