CHITRAL: A teenage boy recorded a video message before committing suicide in Brok village of Laspur valley on Wednesday, in which he stated that he had to end his life as he could not continue his education beyond intermediate.

District police officer Mansoor Aman told Dawn that the boy identified as Mohammad Hussain, 19, fired at him with an automatic gun and died on the spot. The postmortem examination of the body will be carried out on Thursday (today) before the body is handed over to parents.

The DPO said that in yet another incident of suicide, a teenager girl ended her life by jumping into a river in Booni whose body was later fished out.

He said the girl was the resident of Booni village who had left her home four days ago when her stepmother allegedly subjected her to mistreatment.

Mr Aman said on the report of her father that her daughter had gone missing four days ago, police found her living in another Kuragh village in the house of one of her schoolteachers, and was later returned to her father.

However, on Wednesday morning, she reportedly jumped into the river, he said, adding the postmortem examination of her body would establish if she was subjected to any kind of torture before she took her life.

The police officer said this was the third incident of suicide during the current week.
