KARACHI, May 17: Additional District and Session’s Court South on Tuesday acquitted a man in a rape and murder case for lack of evidence. Mohammad Zahid was prosecuted for killing Aliya Anjum 30, a lecturer of Govt College for Women, after rape on April 30, 2003. Aliya’s body was found in a vehicle on May 2, 2003 in the limits of Gizri police station. Absconding co-accused Chaudhuri Sohail Saqib was declared absconder in the case.

Defence counsel M.R Syed earlier submitted that the prosecution had miserably failed to prove charges against his client.

ADJ Ms Farzana Anwar Shah, after hearing the case, observed that the prosecution had failed to prove sufficient evidences against the accused who is exonerated from rape and murder charges.—PPI
